Welcome to the Sagas (of a STL Birder)

Snorri Sturluson, the Icelandic skald and sometimes curmudgeon, wrote down the sagas of the Norse gods in his Prose Edda and the history of Norse royalty in the Heimskringla—in doing so he preserved stories and sagas to be enjoyed (and reimagined again and again) by future generations.

I am no Snorri, but I do count myself as a historian (got the degree and everything) and a poet (and a poor one at that). My muses are not gods nor kings, but birds and those who seek them out. In birds and birders, one finds ample inspiration for saga-worthy tales, semi-fictional or otherwise. This blog then is my attempt to put pen to metaphysical paper, to document not only my birding adventures, but those tales from the past that deserve to be enjoyed today. As a St. Louis resident, my focus will mainly be on the birds and birders of the greater St. Louis area; but as an avid traveler, my tales too will wander elsewhere in search of good birds and good stories.

Currently, I am back-filling the blog with some of my published and unpublished birding sagas, but fret not, I hope to regularly publish new tales for you to peruse. In the meantime, kick back and enjoy a story or two.
